If You Always Do What You Always Did, You'll Always Get What You Always Got

Catchy, huh? This is one of my favorite slogans, and it really is true. There is a famous saying that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

People frequently say they are lonely and want a relationship, but they only go to the same single bars and meet other lonely people who say they want a relationship, and if any trace of intimacy rears its ugly head, they both go running for the hills! Have you ever noticed that?

Another example: people who don't believe in therapy frequently say that they were raised to handle their own problems, yet they never really do anything to handle these problems except repeat the same behavior that leads to the problems!

Think about it. Human Beings are creatures of habit, and even though we may be unhappy and say we want something different, we are usually more comfortable with our familiar habits in our familiar surroundings, however miserable we may be in them, than we are about changing any of those same habits and surroundings!

It takes strength and determination, and insight into our own behavior, to actually change what is holding us back.
