AGENTS

Agents are licensed by the actors' unions. They secure appointments for their clients and negotiate their contracts for 10% of the actor's salary. There are hundreds of agents to choose from.

Not every agent will be right for you. It's your job to research and find out what agency would be best suited for your career path.

An agent works by submitting his/her clients for projects found through Breakdown Services (see BREAKDOWNS). They submit ALL the clients on their roster who match the description of the role on the Breakdown; they are not as concerned about YOU getting an audition as much as they care that SOMEONE from their roster gets an audition. They also work with their favorite casting directors, with whom they have developed relationships. Some agents are even able to draw upon writers and directors from within their own agency. But for an actor just starting out, an agent would most likely take your pictures and resumes and then submit you for roles that they felt you were right for through Breakdown Services and hope to generate some activity.

There is no guarantee that by signing with an agent or a manager, you will book work. The best you can count on is an increased activity and better quality auditions.
