FREELANCING

Freelancing is working with several representatives without a contract; in general you freelance only with agents. It is rare that you would freelance with several managers. It's also more prevalent in commercials.

Freelancing commercially is generally more effective if you are a character actor. I say that because each commercial agent you meet might see you as a different character type than another agent. One agent might see you as a thug, a street character or a punk. Another commercial agent might see your more as a clean cut college student or man on his first job. Another agent might only appreciate your comic contribution. As you can see, this could be a tremendous benefit for you, exposing yourself to several categories in the commercial world. Those actors who are more generic or conventional tend to thrive when they are signed with one commercial agency because, generally speaking, other commercial agents would see that actor the same way!
